Strategy 2: Implement an early detection and rapid response system to deal with
detected and potential AIS. Specifically
- Develop a communication structure within the Flathead Basin
- Define authorities and responsibilities in a rapid response scenario
- Define response protocol
- Utilize current models of collaboration in a rapid response scenario
Rapid Response Plan: The Flathead Basin features many interstate rivers, lakes, and
reservoirs. There is a need to develop a Flathead Basin rapid response plan to react to
newly discovered AIS populations. If each State, Tribe, County, Province, and state and
federal agencies have an AIS rapid response plan, it is a simple matter to ensure
coordination between the different jurisdictions. If there are needs for rapid response
plans, we will facilitate their creation, using the Western Regional Panel Rapid Response
Model as a standard for the development of rapid response plans within the Flathead
Basin.
Strategy 2A: Develop and implement a rapid‐response plan.
Tasks
- Convene States, Tribes, Provinces, Counties, and state and federal land management
agencies to compare rapid response plans and identify needs. Ensure plans address
interstate and transboundary situations. - Ensure all Flathead Basin Tribes, Counties, the Province of B.C. and state and federal
land management agencies have rapid response plans in place by facilitating their
creation or developing a Flathead Basin‐wide plan.
